Facility Manager WebEdit

A web-based PODS data maintenance application for field and office personnel.

Facility Manager WebEdit is an ESRI ArcGIS Server-based application that enables pipeline field personnel to view and update the PODS GIS from a web browser. It combines the complete web mapping functionality of our Centerline Browser server application with select data maintenance features found in our Facility Manager desktop application to offer a lightweight PODS editing tool for field personnel.

Rather than submitting paper forms to the central office, field personnel can now enter leaks, repairs, foreign line crossing, and maintenance activities directly into the GIS. Using a workflow-based approach, field submitted data is temporarily held in a Staging GIS until it is approved by an authorized GIS reviewer. This approach creates a system of accountability and a more transparent workflow for pipeline data edits coming in from the field. The GIS department saves valuable time by not having to enter data from hand written forms and moving paperwork via email, fax, or mail.

New Century’s Facility Manager desktop and Facility Manager WebEdit applications use a new technology called Intelligent Domains that simplifies data entry while providing better data quality control. Intelligent Domains limit the selection of drop-down values based on related pipeline data. For example, once a pipe diameter is entered, all valid wall thickness values for that diameter are highlighted in the drop-down list.

Facility Manager WebEdit supports a leak/inspection/repair workflow that tracks the status of leaks, pipe inspections, repairs, blowdowns and related maintenance activities. The application ties these action items together in a single workflow so a complete view of the entire inspection and maintenance activity can be created. This provides tightly integrated leak management using the GIS and ensures that maintenance is done in a timely manner and is tracked through to completion.
