Gathering Lines
Oil and gas gathering systems present a unique set of operational and regulatory challenges. Through efficient and effective management of their GIS, operators can gain significant competitive advantages. GIS can be used to expedite pipeline permitting and construction, to model system hydraulics and increase the capacity of existing infrastructure, to prevent asset damage by ensuring accurate depiction of lines in one-call systems, to monitor right-of-ways for encroachments, and to meet stringent regulations.
New Century offers a variety of services and software to support gathering system operators of all sizes. We work with clients to develop the data management and the GIS technology needed to meet their business requirements.
Data Quality
Centerline and data quality is critical to gathering pipeline operators. Many gathering systems have grown through multiple acquisitions and include varying data quality. New Century helps gathering operators convert legacy CAD, paper and shapefile data into a centralized GIS.
Our professional services team has converted over 150,000 thousand miles of pipeline data from CAD, paper maps, shape files and spreadsheets for gathering pipeline operators. Clean and consistent data, along with accurate centerlines, enhance operations in areas such as one-call, right-of-way management, new construction planning, leak reports/repair, and integrity management.
Managing Data
New Century works with gathering system operators on both lightweight and full-scale PODS data model implementations. Our consultants will help your team to identify existing data sources, select an appropriate data model, develop an IT and software infrastructure plan, and perform the data migration.
Once the GIS is operational, our Facility Manager application provides the ability to manage pipeline attribute and centerline data on the system. Users can perform day-to-day maintenance within ArcMap to ensure the integrity of the corporate pipeline data.
As the GIS matures, opportunities for enterprise integration will become apparent. New Century can work with your organization to integrate third-party applications encompassing field data collection, land management, asset management and other key areas.
Integrity Management
Current and proposed PHMSA pipeline regulations impose significant requirements on natural gas and hazardous liquid gathering pipelines in the United States. Even the process of determining if gathering lines are regulated can be complicated and require geospatial analysis. Requirements can include HCA identification, Class Location analysis, development of integrity management programs, and risk ranking. New Century’s professional services team has the tools and expertise to help determine if lines are regulated and if so, help operators comply with the pipeline regulations. Companies can realize significant time and cost savings by trusting New Century to analyze their data and provide defensible results.
Organizations with larger pipeline systems and/or those who prefer to conduct integrity management analysis in-house can purchase licenses of our Gas HCA Analyst and Spatial Risk Analyst applications. Training and implementation packages are offered to ensure a quick and smooth adoption.
